A Little Help From My Friends

It often amazes me that God has put the work of His kingdom in such feeble hands. But then I realize that He hasn’t really put anything in my hands. He has given me a voice, a heart that can call to His. This is where the real work of the kingdom lies, I believe. For some reason He covets our prayers. He wants us to come before His throne with our petitions. And this process is what moves the world. God then works….through us, around us, sometimes in spite of us.

I have some dear friends who are praying for me right now. They are going before God on behalf of this move. Our packers come tomorrow, and then again on Thursday and Friday. I have friends here and in Indiana and in the Philippines who are specifically covering all aspects of this move in prayer.

This morning I received an email from one of them. And an amazing thing happened. I felt such a sense of comfort. To know that people are lifting you up to a holy, loving, righteous God….and to know that this same God delights in His people and hears the prayers of His saints….what an incredible thing. And what an incredible gift from my friends. I love you guys!

I was reading Psalm 16 this morning. Here’s verse 3:

“As for the saints who are in the land,
they are the glorious ones in whom is all my delight.”

A little later I read Psalm 106. In it the psalmist speaks of Moses and his interceding on behalf of the children of Israel. He “stood in the breach” before God. A few verses later, we read that Phinehas “stood up and intervened.”

In I Sam. 12:23, Samuel tells the Israelites, after another bout of disobedience on their part:

“As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you.”

I don’t understand the ways of God. That’s what makes Him God and me not. But I do know this. He hears the prayers of His people. When they pray in accordance with His will, He moves heaven and earth.
