My Life Right Now

Here's my life right now:

I'm still trying to put my house in order. The downstairs looks like a real living environment (the upstairs is still a nightmare). It is odd how things can sometimes lead our hearts. I don't mean in a materialistic way. But coming into my home I see the buffet piece that was given to us years ago by some very dear friends. My picture of my sisters and me is in the dining area next to an old wooden fence piece I got at a flea market in Germany. I have other pictures in my kitchen; one is of Paris (my sister and her family went with us on that trip), another is my youngest son and his friends in Germany, and another is of me with 3 of my best friends on the planet. How can my heart not smile when I walk in and see these things? They are kind of a testament to a blessed life; to people I love and who love me.

I'm working part-time. Well, I feel like I work all the time, but the part-time is for pay! I'm tutoring again. I love that I'm able to do this. I'm tutoring teen age girls, which is such a gift to me. My household is definitely testosterone saturated!

My kids and I are still working our way through US history with their homeschooling. They're reading some great books right now...Across Five Aprils (about the Civil War) and Derek is also reading The Pilgrim's Regress by CS Lewis. (He finished Pilgrim's Progress a couple of weeks ago.) I like the way my kids think. They certainly think differently from each other, and this makes the conversations that much more interesting.

I have a friend who meets me for coffee once a week. She's great, and I look forward to my time with her.

I'm meeting with some women tonight for our first book group meeting. We're going to meet every other week and discuss faith related books. It will take us a while to get through some of them, so I'm thinking this first book will be discussed for several sessions. I am so looking forward to it. We're doing Celebration of Discipline. I love Richard Foster's work and this is a classic. The women I'm meeting with are yearning for the company of other women and are so excited about this project.

I have a best friend here. The convenient thing is that he lives in my house. He's interested in many of the same things I am, our goofy kids to name a few.

I'm reading Knowing God by J.I. Packer. It's a good book, for anyone who's interested.

The New Year has some things in store for all of us, I'm sure. Come what may, blessed be the Name of the Lord.
